I just woke up! I restored my 1.1.2 firmware to the original state, and boxed everything up. Tomorrow it goes back to the apple store.
This is my 2nd iphone after trying it some time ago.. but I am headed back to Sony Ericsson K850i. Sure I could wait for the unlock but I have other issues:
Hello working A2DP stereo over bluetooth, voice dialing, 5mp camera, instantly working sim, 3g / and edge.
Grabbing a pair of Voyager 855 stereo earbuds.
Plus, I couldn't get past the fact that I couldn't skip tracks on the iphone without touching the screen! Do I really need mobile safari and lights out? I think not. I'll just tether the phone to my tablet pc and have a huge touchscreen I can draw on..
Plus, I can swap in as many 4gb memory cards as I want, which are fast and easy to fill up with music. Drag and drop folders.. no crappy itunes sync.
Bye apple! Cool phone.. but it's too big and clunky for me..

Watch out! Plenty of fanbois around here...
Its a shame you didn't get on with the iPhone, but public opinion (as gleaned by me) seems to indicate that you hold a minority opinion. That's not to say its wrong, of course. You're completely entitled to your views. But I think the points you make, although valid, are probably concessions most people are willing to make at this stage for the other benefits the iPhone offers.
Personally, I loved my K800i. The best phone I had. Before my iPhone. But in my opinion my iPhone is leagues ahead of the K800i.
I tried to get the K800i to do music. I tried to get it to do web browsing. I tried to get the K800i to do GPS navigation with an external bluetooth GPS adapter.
Then I gave up and just ended up using it as a phone. I still wanted a music player and a navigation device, however.
Then realised the iPhone could do it all, and I was quite happy to leave GPS up to TomTom.
My only other gripe with the iPhone is lack of 3G. But I'm almost never away from WiFi (which is super-fast on MobileSafari), and I don't think I'm ever going to need fast data access THAT much when I'm on the road. I think I'll settle for O2's iPhone data plan and GPRS transfer speeds for the odd occasion when I'd like to pull down weather or traffic information.
You mention A2DP stereo over bluetooth and voice dialing - and, while this would be nice, I can understand that no one can produce a first generation device that can do it all, and these are all things that could be added with a firmware upgrade in the future. (plus, I never got voice dialing to work usefully on my K800i).
You also mentioned iTunes syncing. I'm really not sure what your problem is here. Its been seamless for me. In fact, the whole experience of the iPhone has been seamless. I get the merest few seconds of hang in iTunes when I connect my iPhone, but it unhangs quickly and performs the task without fault. I can only guess that if you're having problems, its either related to iTunes and your media, or something else on your computer.
I'm one happy iPhone customer, and would never go back.

N95 is a really good phone, but I personally hate Symbian...the user interface of the iPhone makes Nokia cry...

You make valid points but the reason there are many Apple fanbois here is because it is a forum dedicated to Apple products. :o

You probably don't feel the need to check your facts anymore, but you skip tracks without touching the screen using the included stereo headphones.

There's so much hate in this thread. The OP's tone wasn't overly aggressive or confrontational, so why so much hate?
This guy has chosen that the iPhone is not for him. Its not going to be for everyone. We should be glad that he came back and posted his comments.

Well if you wanted to skip tracks you just had to click 2 times on the microphone of the headphones and it would skip the track :)
I guess you were not well informed before buying it and after youve used it didnt know how to search for iphone possibilities

Thanks, but I'm afraid I don't agree. A fanboy is bad for the simple reason that he cannot see fault in anything his betrothed does. I think there are plenty of (unfortunately, by nature, less vocal) Apple users here that like what Apple do, but appreciate the flaws as much as the benefits. They are not fanboys.
Just because this is a forum dedicated to Apple products, it does not follow that all members should therefore be fanboys.

Found an interesting post (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/19/3g_iphone/comments/#c_99747) in the comments section on a story at The Register that is eloquent and an appropriate discussion point for this thread:
From 'Fred Fnord' - "Is that... a good thing?"
If you don't understand that some people actually value simplicity, elegance, and the ability to do things more quickly, and are willing to pay for them, then you won't understand the iPhone. (You are the logical equivalent of the people who said that GUIs were for wimps, until Windows 95 came out.)
And if you are willing to admit that elegance, simplicity, and so forth are actually worth something, but don't see them in the iPhone, then your mind works differently than the minds of those who do. Not worse, not better, just differently. So give up telling people that there's no advantage to the iPhone, because what you're really doing is insisting that everyone's mind must work the same way yours does. And it'd be a funny old world...
Right? And in return, iPhone users, please stop telling people who complain about the iPhone that they're stupid, or [obscene gerund] [anatomical noun]s, or whatever. Oddly, it doesn't seem to be convincing anyone.

That may be true but I fail at understanding the need of announcing it in this forum.
And I don't think I've seen any hate in the replies... sarcasm is more like it - also I don't understand how he could possibly be unaware of the iPhone's shortcomings, considering how much attention they got in the media, when I bought it I knew that it laked MMS, 3G, A2DP stereo support and a camera with lots of megapixels that ends up shooting crappy photos anyway because it's too small.
But well, everyone has the right to shop however he pleases and the right to return the goods if they are not satisfied, which is probably the case.
No hard feelings on my side, I just don't care, but I can't blame the others for being sarcastic and/or hostile about this thread.

I love the Iphone, and I have have learned alot by hacking it for non-AT&T. It's been quite a thrill and a challenge. However, now that the novelty is wearing off. I think I am beginning to dislike the "rat race" of Apple vs Hackers. I also distrust some of the novice hackers in the arena now because I do not want my iPhone bricked!

fyi, the iphone with no manual
that being said, i think its the first cell fone ever not come come with a manual. when i bought a sidekic, nextel and nokia they came with thick manuals,
but i found with the iphone is was so incredibly easy to learn that it actually does not need a manual. i was very impressed as to how easy the iphone can be used out of the box.
my one gripe is that the iphone can not sync to mulitple PCs like other PDAs
