Hi,
After finding a lot of useful information here I thought I would write up a tutorial on how I managed to unlock. I tried to make it way more detailed then most(screenshots) so that even newbies could easily follow.
Please let me know if I have succeeded or if anything should be changed.
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=358
Thanks!
UPDATE***: December 7, 2007: I updated the tutorial to only downgrade to 1.1.1 instead of all the way down to 1.0.2. Please let me know if you detect any problems as I couldn't 100% test this since I don't have anymore old bootloader iphones.

You don't need to copy lockdown files. Download the updated Jailbreak1.1.2. Also use iWorld from installer application to avoid crash on Phone dialpad and SMS if your live in countries other than 7 countries described in iPhone.

What exactly does iWorld do though? Is it seriously smart enough to work out which country you're in and contains all the possible country/area code combinations to correctly modify AppSupport as well as all the possible carriers to create the new .plist and symlink?
Or do you still have to supply all this info, and it just takes care of the file-work? Can someone who's used it please clarify.

Great guide. The only problem for me is that iNdependence doesn't kick my phone out of recovery mode (in the guide it says DFG mode) after the second 1.1.1 restore (after anySIM). Any idea how I can make it return?

Does iNdependence detect your iPhone? Check the status at the bottom of the window. Once it detected my iPhone it, iNdependence rebooted the phone to remove it from DFU mode.

deanriver, just re-restore 1.1.1 and after the error, wait for the iphone to appear in itunes, then click "ok" and "eject" the iphone, then close itunes... and open independence
I had the same problem, works like a charm now
by the way I didn't need the patched lockdown file... my phone was activated already after jailbreaking... is this normal? :)

Ok, well I have a 1.1.1 IPSF unlocked iPhone. Done the Okto thingy, updated to 1.1.2 through iTunes and did a jailbreak. My iPhone works perfectly. Took me less than 10 minutes.
The only little problem I have is that there´s an SSH Icon on my springboard. Is there any way to delete that? I tried to SSH in my phone but it wouldn´t let me delete it.

Nice guide, but I think you got the phone number to call to get to Safari on an unactivated iPhone wrong, it's *#307#, not *#301# or *301# as the picture suggests :)

I had an unlocked 1.0.2 iphone.. unlocked with iunlock.. i virginised it with the virginiser pack on installer and then used independence 1.3beta and any sim 1.1 to upgrade it to 1.1.1 and unlock it
can i continue from the part of the tutorial which says upgrade to 1.1.2 or should i do al the steps from the beginning all over again?
having used anysim 1.1 on my 1.1.1 FW .. wil the phone remain unlocked on 1.1.2?(so il only need to upgrade and jailbreak activate)
thanks

iMania,
anysim 1.1 will not work for the 1.1.2 firmware. you will unfortunately have to update, downgrade, then run anysim 1.2 then update again.
sorry

Bianca, you need to be using Modem Firmware 04.02.13_G for anySIM 1.2u to work. This means you have to update first. Then follow the steps in the tutorial.

i've read about the sms and phone crashing if using in an unsupported country. Does this occur with this unlock? I'm in Aus and wanting to update from 1.1.1 anysim 1.1 unlocked phone.

I've never tried this using an unsupported country; however, Scott commented in the tutorial comments that installing iWorld from the Tweaks(1.1.2) menu fixed his problem.

iMania,
The bootloader is what runs before the operating system is loaded.
All new iPhones as of Week 45 in The US and ALL iPhones in Europe come with the new BOOT04.06_M3S2 bootloader. These phones can still be JailBroken and Activated but as of yet cannot be Sim Unlocked with a Software Solution
If your iPhone came out of the box with 1.1.2 firmware then you have the new bootloader.
The old bootloader had an exploit which allowed us to run unsigned code, thus allowing us to reflash the modem baseband firmware and patch areas leaving the phone unlocked. The new version of the bootloader has closed this exploit.
Most of this info is straight from the iPhone Dev Wiki. You should check that out for more info.

Hi all,
I used this excellent guide (iClarified) and tried many times following every step except:
1-Didn't use anySym since my iphone was unlocked originally with SimFree and still is unlocked.
2-Didn't do the "lockdown" at the end.
This is my problem (OTB 1.1.1):
When I am in 1.0.2 my Sim works and I have service and can use the phone (but fails to install Installer.app and makes the iPhone unusable; otherwise I will leave it on 1.0.2) even though I will like at least to be at 1.1.1.
As soon as I upgrade to 1.1.1 no bars and no service (same in 1.1.2), If I check Setting>Carriers it shows my carrier and automatic but they are greyed out and if I try to check again, only get spinning "Error".
I was wondering if anybody had the same problem (I have read the NO Service issue, but I do have service with 1.0.2 unlike all the ones I have read)
Please if anybody has any ideas, really appreciated.
Thanks for any help,
Emilio

did you run anySIM 1.2.1u under 1.1.1 and not 1.1.2 ??
yes, I did. So should I upgrade it back to 1.1.2 then try to run anySIM 1.2? would this unlock the phone?
Thanks dtube.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've updated this tutorial to only require downgrade to 1.1.1. If someone could double check to make sure everything is accurate I would appreciate it. I didn't have any old bootloader phones left so I couldn't test this as thoroughly as I would have liked.
