View Full Version : IPhone Dev Team falling apart?

Hi Guys
First let me say that I have so much respect for what the IPhone Dev Team has done for all of us. Today I read on hacktheiphone.com that the IPhone Dev Team is falling apart and that they are very short on resources... they dont even have an IPhone with BL4.06! You've got zero chance of unlocking a new BL firmware without the hackers themselves having the hardware to hack!
There are a few people out there making A LOT of money selling unlocked IPhones online. Is it a real possibility that 1.1.1 / BL 3.x will be the last unlocked iphones ever... ?

It puzzles me reading this. I see so many post from people claiming they have donated money to the dev team. In fact read a post yesterday where someone claimed they donated $200
Question is are these posters fibbing?

DEV team is still here until they say otherwise. If they don't have resources then may be people here should start doing something . Hint hint ...
With that said, pspsully just donated a 1.1.2 BL4.06 to GeoHot. Hopefully Geohot can dump the bootloader and gain more info. I'm sure he will share it.

i think its in the best interests of the IPhone Merchants who are making big $$$ to keep the IPhone Dev Team alive. Some people have made real businesses out of selling hacked IPhones internationally, and real money. I just find it amazing how the dev team doesn't even have a IPhone with BL 4.06... merchants: its your businesses on the line, donate an IPhone (BL 4.06 / WK 45+) or you wont have any stock to sell... ebay is already seeing higher and higher iphone prices due to the immediate shortage of hacked iphone supply (due to unlockable iphones)... and coming up to christmas its going to get worse
I think thats bullshit. If someone has the knowledge to hack such stuff he has enough education to get a well payed job. Think. In my position its now problem to buy one iPhone per month. But as long as they do not open their source code i will not help or donate...

I think that the DEV team people have jobs besides sitting at home hacking away, and there doing all of us a favor if your selling them on eBay or its just for yourself.
I've ran into allot of sites that sell hacking tips and sell so called unlocking CD's but those don't seem to work, the only ones I've gotten to work is the DEV teams free work.

Guys, this is a load of bull. The Dev Team are working their asses off doing what they do best but after reading threads with the header like this one i'd say they wonder why they do it at all!!
The Dev Team DO have some 1.1.2 iPhone with tthe 4.6 bootloader, and the elite team have at least 4 of them!!
BUT, just because they have some DOES NOT mean they dont need our support!! These guys are ordinary working guys and have other stuff to do also, its patetic that some people can be SO BLOODY IMPATIENT that if a solution isnt out for their problem the same second thay have it, they will turn on whoever is supposed to supply it!!
If you want a solution faster, DO IT YOURSELF and dont be bitching about the guys who have made it possible for over half a million worldwide users to have unlocked iPhones!!
This little rant i'm on is not aimed at the creator of this thread, nor at the everyday folk who generally give a shit what goes on in these forums but the guys at hackmyiphone and the guys who cant understand why they spent 400bucks on an iPhone and cant unlock it.
If your that impatient, bring the phone back and buy another one when the solution is available!! Assholes!!

Good post. It is frustrating when you have an iPhone and can't actually use it as a phone. But I am confident the guys are working on something. It would be silly to suddenly stop the development since there are so many that will benefit from a new hack.
I guess we just have to be patient.

Well said, pspsully! I'm also waiting for a solution, but in the meanwhile, there is a lot to be learn on this forum on 1.1.1 Those crying babies outthere will bitch about the unlock taking so long and later on, because it is too complicated to figure out!
In the meanwhile, I think the DevTeam is building an awesome reputation. Don't you think this is even more valuable for their future careers than the money they make right now?

I think a majority would agree with this opinion to let them work, but the community would benefit much more if they would communicate at least something about their status, may be their problems or issues, so that other clever people can help them. And not isolate themselves for weeks without a sign of life about this topic and everybody is confused what is going on.
........... I guess we just have to be patient.
That's not enough. Let's donate what we can as well :) They do and deliver us the output of their job for free, and we all are very thankful, but this does not mean the have no expenses, and we have to support them as well. They proved they deserve it! Just think: how much is the unlock of the new fw and bootloader worth for you? How much would you pay to get an unlock for it? You paid 400 bucks (or euro) for the iphone. How much would you pay to be able to use it, or sell it? ;) Just take the amount you have in your mind and donate at least a part of it. That's what I just did :)
Half a million people, including me, owed to them. Sadly most of them think they owed to some merchants. I remember reading a thread in this forum saying iPhone was sold in Venezuela for 2,000 USD! I bet not a buck of that made it to Dev Team.

Some people made a fortune selling iPhones. If each of this "merchants" would have donated only 10 USD per sold iPhone, the Dev Team would have ALL the resources they'll ever need to keep us "running" with updated hacks/unlocks until 2010. :p
Seriously: some commercial "profiteurs" should be ashamed that they never donated but I guess this is how the world is ticking. What they don't seem to understand is that if the Dev Team falls apart (I don't see that, don't know where this bull is coming from???), the business falls apart. The iPhone is still not available everywhere and people worldwide steadily start to realize how good it is, demand should be still high.
So it would be good for their business if merchants would donate but I doubt that these guys have the vision to understand that.

So do I. I think most people donating so far have been users like me, appreciating the dev teams work and enjoying a free iPhone. So f... those merchants that never donated and let us keep the dev team supported by us. I guess any Dollar counts, so lets rock.
thx dev team and all the mods here for your time and work. I know you all have a real life with real jobs and spend so much of your spare time for the community.

I agree entirely that they Dev team SHOULD DEFINITELY be posting on this forum about their latest findings/issues/progress. It would stop stupid topics like this one being posted.

I agree with everyone here the Dev team do a fantastic job and without them we’d all be on expensive contacts to own an iphone. But also I can understand some people not donating when the Dev Team are not communicating. I think it wouldn’t hurt anyone if they made one post a week with a small progress report. After all it will silence posts like this one and in turn boost people’s confidence and consequently boost Donations as well.
But of course that’s just my option and maybe I’m wrong :)

Yeah - I have never used any of the other tools offered by the dev team since I just got my 1.1.2 OTB iPhone. And I won't donate until I see either some progress being made, or the actual unlock tool.
So yes , some updates from the dev team would certainly encourage people to donate.

It's a sad fact, but those that are more desperate are those that are making money out of it. Some even have a bunch of 1.1.2 OTB phone and are eager to unlock them.
And I will bet that very few of them have ever donated a penny to any of the teams.

maybe more people would donate if the dev-team give some information for us?
It is natural that nobody wants to donate money if nobody knows whats happening!
I would donate immediately with more information about whats going on..

No information is pretty standard from the Dev Team. Want to see what's going on? Join the IRC channel (just listen and do not ask questions like "When will the new anySIM be ready?")

Some accountability would be nice. I think a lot more peiple will donate if the team states how much they are getting and what they are doing with it.

Look, this topic has been beaten before. What you are seeing now is a carbon copy of what happened when 1.1.1 was released. Impatient people, posts a la' (does week x has firmware x)...etc.

some accountability ... go fuck someone else elsewhere ...
dev team is doing what they decide, when appropriate
if you're looking for accountability : go to the AT&T, O2-UK, T-Mobile Germany and soon the Orange France store, buy a regular phone with plan and ask there for "accountability"
looser !

I know it's been said,
but i totally agree with what's been said in this thread.
I just bought and OTB 1.1.2, 4.6 and it's pissing me off like no tomorrow,
but a little patience goes a long way.
i have friends who are pretty experienced hackers,
and when i watched them unlock my phone for just the iPod touch ability,
I was amazed, theres was scripts, and unix, and i have no idea what the hell was going on.
So more support to the Dev team, think im gonna donate 20 bucks later today,
i mean, i could pay someone out here to fuck up my phone royally trying to unlock it,
or just support the team who knows what they are doing,
and give them some more credit.

Have faith in the boys (& girls??)

The phone is either locked or unlocked. If it is unlocked, I believe they will be the first to announce it and we will know. What update and progress status do you want? 30% unlocked? 50%? or 85.34%?
