Anyone Activate AT&T line via iTunes outside USA?

Has anyone activated brand new AT&T line via iTunes OUTSIDE of the USA? I know of people who activated in USA and brought to roam OUTSIDE USA. Have anyone activated it OUTSIDE of USA. ie. the new phone is in Europe and we do it over iTunes and it immediately roam to the foreign GSM network.

Yep. No problem activating the iPhone outside of the US if that's what you mean. Nothing to do with AT&T tho

Yes i activated it in France with a prepaid @ 29$ + differents fees = 54,9$ . and then 29$ everytime i want to keep the line open ..
You need a freind's adress in USA and to put 9999 .... as SSN . Then for the payment you put your europeen card with your EU adress and that's it .. in the contract you can also activates a roaming plan calling them .. but expensive if you want to used it .
you also have a cancelation possibillity every 3 month .
Now my phone is unlocked but with no service and i can use all the other match..

thanks for the note. So you use the any phone roaming in France? or just the WiPod? And you mush call AT&T to activate roaming with GoPhone? or is it auto?

on my account plans it says i have to call a number for having the internationnal roaming charge option activated .. i'll try to call them but my english is not enough good for appearing american .. i'am afraid they could do something for blocking account .. it also says that we could cancell everything .. for the moment i use all the devices but no i have no line after dialing ..

I activated it with the prepaid plan from San Marino. Used my wirecard (www.wirecard.com). It works 100% except calls and SMS (also youtube works).

I have done this step without any help in 10 minutes after iPhone arrived by TNT... but unfortunately not yet a phone... :(

Bought my unit from the U.S. on eBay. Originally activated via Anderson Technology software, no problems. Then got fed up with seeing the AT&T activation screen in iTunes so activated successfully :confused: via pre paid GoPhone method. Spoken with their customer service, no international roaming on this plan and cannot upgrade to a post paid plan without going to an AT&T store.

iPhone status now saying 'No Service' on home screen with AT&T sim. Settings>Carrier> showing all 4 U.K. network providers. Valid U.K. sims (Vodafone and o2) get 'Invalid Sim for this Device' error and Settings>Carrier get flashing 'Error' message in middle of the screen.

Any help?

So where are you located ? You bought the phone WITH the ATT SIM card and you are in the UK ?

Yes, located in the U.K. AT&T sim, everything working except 'phone functions.

I have Wirecard

What address do I use in the activation screen if the Wirecard is a UK address ?

Where is the GoPhone screen ?

Do I need to deactivate if I have already activated with Anderson ?

You must use a valid U.S. Address
The GoPhone option comes up when you fail the credit check with all 9's in the ssn.
You do not need to de-activate first.

Am I missing something here? If you activate with the pre-paid method, outside US you don't get roaming. So why bother? Why don't use Anderson or DVDJon instead?

I got it activated with GoPhone and I am in the UK.

Now...what do I need to do ? Call and cancel ?

YouTube doesnt work even after official activation !

There seem to be a LOT of people claiming full phone capability, yet none able to support or verify those statements.

Essentially, I had an iPhone fedex'd to Thailand, and activated it here. ACtivation via iTunes worked fine (took 2 minutes), after which the phone sat at the :

"Waiting for ATT Activation - this may take some time"

Screen - this is when it tries to check in with the local network (which it hopes is AT&T), to enable the actual phone features. It remains at this screen endlessly, either because Thailand has no roaming partnership with AT&T, or because the account has no international roaming activated (since, apparently, AT&T requires an account to be live for 90 days, before 'allowing' international roaming.)

Oh well, I'll know in 24 hours when I'm back in to US. It should activate and work once it checks in with AT&T.

ok cool let me know, what you get when back in the US. I Fedex mine from NY to Singapore. Now i am not sure to activate it via AT&T or not. i suspect it will need to logon to a AT&T network before you can take it to roam.
