I spent days on this forum and I keep seeing tutorials about unlocking iphones with firmware 1.1.1 whihc say to downgrade your firmware.

Well please DO NOT do it.

Do you have an iphone firmware 1.1.1??? OK use one of these tutorial (video step by step included)

OR

http://iphone.unlock.no/

These are the most complete and easy tutorials to unlock your iphone.

If you downgrade your iphone from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 it might have some serious problems like not receiving sms, not being able to connect to the network, IMEI 0049000 etc. So please do not downgrade your firmware.

IF YOU HAVE THE LATEST FIRMWARE 1.1.2

well again do not downgrade to any other firmware as new problems can come up like this user

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15325

he now needs to revirginize his iphone and it's an arse.

so again wait till a new AppSnapp comes out and it should be this week end :)

To clarify, there is no harm downgrading to 1.0.2 from 1.1.1 as long as you do it correctly. I have unlocked more than 10 phones using this method in conjunction with Independence 1.2.5 and every phone works 100%, including sms, Youtube etc.

from what knowledge do you conclude that downgrading the correct way is bad other than people that are having problems(which most likely did a step incorrectly)?i've heard of many successful downgrades, compared to the few random problems, which happens with every tutorial, because people cannot read.
